The Day the Earth Stood Still
Isn’t that intriguing? For those of us of a certain age, reading or hearing those words will evoke memories of an old movie which was one of the first to remind us that the universe is filled with the unexpected, the unknown, and the undiscovered. I can remember shuddering in my seat in the theater……..Fast forward, or perhaps not so fast forward………it is 2008, and the remake of this epic is in the works! Due to be released in December of this year, it stars Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly, and promises to be a nail biter for sure. Just click on movie trailer and you can have a teensy peek at what the end of the year will bring!
Now, why would I be writing about this film? Well, because of Joan Kelley Bierman, of course! And who is Joan? She is an accomplished professional in the realm of film; she is an intelligent and thoughtful woman; she is funny and insightful; AND she just happens to be the woman in my son’s life! Yippee! Joan and Matthew met while they were both working on the second Scooby Doo film – he in editing, and she as the post production supervisor. The post person keeps the show going, makes sure the film is on time, on budget, in general – she does everything to pull the piece together. It is a Herculean task, and believe me: she is up to it! Imagine balancing the deadlines for the score, the special effects, the screenings AND working with the stars, the producers, the editors, etc. etc. etc. If you have seen Broken Arrow, Snow Dogs, Scooby Doo 2, Get Rich or Die Tryin’, Dreamgirls, or Street Kings, you have seen Joan’s work! What a woman! And the very best part is that she is in love with my son, Matthew, and he with her. She has brought so much to our lives as a family, and I am grateful every single day that a cartoon dog brought us all together! Here is a picture of Matthew and Joan taken at a wedding we attended one year ago. Are they the most adorable couple you’ve seen, or what? Matthew, by the way, is tall – 6′ 5″ ! I love them dearly, and wanted to share them, my happiness, and Joan’s news with all of you! Enjoy!

I have to protest. I don’t think you said nearly enough nice things about them! They’ve been friendly and kind to me and mine on many occasions. If memory serves, Matt and Joan went WAY out of their way–on a moment’s notice–to drive me to a rental car office the day after that very wedding reception. They’re great people. Let me just say to your readers: Ginny sure knows how to pick her family!

Thank you, kind sir! Can I pick ‘em, or what? But then, I picked you as my friend, so it just goes to show what great taste I have! xoxo G.

Oh rats! The trailor snagged so I wasn’t able to watch all of it. I remember the original movie as I watched it when I was a little girl and never forgot it. What a handsome couple. 6’5″ is very tall! She must be fairly tall as well. We have an occasional movie filmed out here on the Salt Flats so if they are ever coming to Utah let me know Ginny and we will make them feel most welcome!

Wow! For some reason, today (while working) I was wondering how Matt was doing in Hollywood and googled him. I then thought of you and googled you that’s how I got here. Matt has grown into such a handsome young man and what a beautiful wife. I did check out the trailer and it sounds great. Send me your email address if you want and I’ll catch you up on my family.
