I don't think that government-run health care is necessarily the answer, but in reality, we have it for a large segment of the population - we have Medicare, Medicaid, and the military and their dependents. That being said, the majority of those without health care are children. Assessing as to whether they are legal citizens or not, I have no way of determining that. What I do know is that if we do not make changes, this is going to sink us as a nation. I have friends in other countries who are pleased with the way their health care system has worked for them, but those reports are anecdotal and not backed up by statistics. What worries me the most is that the need for health care reform will be lost in a political struggle for one side or the other taking credit for bringing this issue to its conclusion. In that struggle, the real people in need will be lost. In my own community, we have free health clinics. These have not been set up for illegals. The working poor and those who currently are unemployed benefit from the care. I know, because I know the gentleman who began one of the clinics currently in operation. If you check with stats on food banks, you will see the dramatic rise in the need for donations to feed those who are hungry. Our bank here has demands up over 30% from this time last year. I shall always be a firm believer in taking care of one another. I do not believe that those who don't want the public option because it is government run are callous individuals. Certain, there are numbers of them who quietly would rather the less fortunate just didn't exist. I know this because I witness this. There is no perfect solution to this issue, because human beings are involved. Any time you have the human factor, you have emotional issues which play into the total outcome. I hope that we can once and for all get a grasp on what is really important with health care needs in this country, before we have reached the point beyond which we lose all control. I do not believe that those with less all believe that those with more owe them. I grew up with nothing, and never expected anything from anyone. But, I am wise enough to know that as I wrote in my entry. life is not all about acquisition. The me/my attitude is a constant thorn in my side. I do have to say I am in complete disagreement with Government Run health Care. I have worked with numerous people from Canada and Europe ..who now live in the U.S. and are at their wits ends that the U.S. is attempting to run health care as in the countries they came from. As you posted about a positive situation ..there are also many negative. But beyond that, The more that government intervenes in our lives the more our Freedoms will be stripped. This is just one foot in the door. As to your 45 million people that don't have health care ..that is a statement going round on the news ..Have you researched this and found it to be true. From the research I have done ..The Majority of this 45 million you speak of.. are illegal immigrants who have come into this country and our government is including them in this count. I live in a state that has massive problems with illegal immigration and they are the first to get free everything including health care. They come first before those who are natural born citizens. The truth is there are major problems with our health care and the way our government overlooks medicare and so on..and they need to fix the problems we have ...not create more ..by having all of us under the thumb of the government. Lastly ..has anyone considered what to do with those who don't believe in using medical care ..such as the Amis the Mennonites, and the Christian Scientists and I'm sure other groups I have not even considered ..or those like myself that use natural health care. Are these people to be forced to take health care and pay for something that goes against what they believe in and if they don't pay for it they will serve jail time. Being forced to take government health care ..is not freedom of choice ..and it squashes our constitutional rights.
