It’s my son’s MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

Attention everyone!  The Time Traveler’s Wife opens everywhere tomorrow!  Yahoo!  Based upon the wonderful best-seller, the film stars Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams, AND it will be a biggy in my house because my son, Matthew, is one of the editors!!!!!!!!    Rounds of applause, please!  It was filmed in Toronto, so that meant that Matthew spent a few months last year in Canada.  Tough duty, huh?!  Then, after the shoot, they all  returned to Los Angeles, where they worked for months to get it juuusssstttt right.  When you edit, you are pulling all of the strands together —  following the outline so that you know which scenes to use (there is always a lot more shot than actually used),  putting in additional dialogue which might have to be re-recorded, putting in the musical score, putting in special effects, etc. etc. etc.  That’s what my son does, and he loves it.  Currently, if you are a reader of my blog, you know that he has been working on Jonah Hex.  I blogged about that a short while back and put up the poster for that movie, due out next year.

OK – so here’s the deal!  The first weekend is the big one for numbers on any film, so I want all of you to go to see it!  Then, write me and share your thoughts!  And, here’s a link to the official website for the film: The Time Traveler’s Wife .

*****At the end of the film, when the credits roll, look for my son.  It will be something like this:  Additional Editor…………………..Matt Diezel   !  That’s my boy!  See you all at the movies!  Enjoy!

You MUST see this!

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

You MUST see this – yes, you MUST see this!  I am a person who believes one person always has, always can, and always will make a difference.  This story which aired on CBS Sunday Morning this past Sunday is proof of my belief.  This is the AMAZING story of an 82-year-old woman, Maisie DeVore, who wanted a swimming pool for the children in her small town, and she was determined to raise the money to build it.  Follow this link to see her journey.  Bravo to the American spirit, and to senior citizens eveywhere who prove, on a daily basis, that life isn’t over and that they contribute to the strength of our culture!

How informed ARE you?

Saturday, July 4th, 2009

If you are a citizen of the United States, how much do you REALLY know about our country and how it works?  I think we are bombarded by facts in the news media, through school, in conversation, but how much do we actually know about our government?

This quiz was on my homepage today – a fitting test on July Fourth, our Independence Day.  Just click on the word ‘quiz’ and go to it! ‘Take a look and give it your best!  After all, the more informed you are, the better decisions you will make!  Happy Fourth!

If you are a regular reader of my blog, you know that my son, Matthew, is a film editor in Hollywood.  His latest film to be released August 14th is The Time Traveler’s Wife, based upon the best-seller, and starring Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams.  Follow this link, and you can catch up on movie information, see a trailer and  the beautiful poster, and learn all about this movie which will be in your theaters in less than two months!  Yeow!  This particular film took Matthew to Toronto for several months of shooting, and then back to his homebase in L.A. to complete the editing.  I am certainly anxious to see it, and I hope you will be as well!  Take a look at the site, and let me know what you think!  Enjoy!

Have you ever wondered when is the best time for you to exercise, or take your vitamins, or have surgery?  It seems that there really are the best times for these, and many other activities, because our bodies work rhythmically, in cycles, just as does all of nature.  Take a look at this interesting article I found on my homepage this morning!  You might be surprised, and helped, by what you discover here!  Have a healthy, timely day!

Are you an optimist?

Monday, June 15th, 2009

During my lifetime,  I have seen myself pretty much as the eternal optimist – I try to look on the bright side of things, believing that it doesn’t cost you anything more to be optimistic, and indeed, it can cost you physically and emotionally to be otherwise.  That’s why I was so interested in this article I found online about optimism.  Take a look!  It is well worth the read!  Enjoy!  And, have a terrific day!  I know I will!

Art with a Heart

Friday, June 5th, 2009

Take a look at the face of this beautiful little girl.  She has been through so much in the first three years of her life.  Her name is Alexis, and for the next several days, through June 12, you can help her, and other children with cancer, by bidding on items which artists from around the country have donated.  Here’s the link to read more about this child.  Her story is crushing reality, but it is ultimately uplifting, because she continues to smile and live each day to the fullest – a reminder for all of us.  If you would like to make a monetary donation, there is an email address to facilitate that as well.  Here’s the link to the Country Folk Art blog, and here’s Alexis!

Billion dollar giveaway!

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

When I read this story online this morning, it gladdened my heart.  We don’t hear enough about real people who make real differences, and this article which is online from Newsweek magazine simply lets all of us know that one person always has, always can, and always will make a difference.  Read this delightful story of Pete Peterson, the son of a Greek immigrant, who made his fortune by establishing the Blackstone company, and now would like to share his wealth.

For your protection!

Monday, May 18th, 2009

Last week, there was a report on one of our local tv stations about proper protection from the sun, and the comparison of sunscreens for effectiveness.  Since I live in a seaside community (Virginia Beach), this is a big deal around here.  You cannot go to the oceanfront without inhaling the fragrances from dozens of products, all designed to tan and to protect.  Having written that, here is the scoop which one local reporter uncovered.  We all owe it to ourselves to take care of our vital organ – our skin!  Please follow this link and read and take heed!

Bionic penguins!!!!!!!!!

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

It’s true!  It’s true!  Follow this link to a really interesting story and video.   Who knew?  Personally, I want my penguins live, but I guess this is the next best thing.  A German engineering firm, Festo, created these little beauties.  Last year, it was  jellyfish!  What the human brain is capable of…….limitless opportunities!

Enjoy!
